They don't make Cartoons like they used to...

The original comic book series of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles by Eastman and Laird was truly a masterpiece. The artwork, storyline and characters were all grade A. I remember wanting to be a comic book artist when I grew up because of them (who didn't want to be that when they grew up at some point??) and even making my own comic book series in like 6th grade influenced by TMNT.

But what really launched the Turtles into mainstream pop icons had to be the 80s cartoon series. Recently I rediscovered these old classics via Youtube(best site ever, seriously..) and I can't stop watching. I swear the bullshit cartoons they put out now a days just can't compare. When I have kids, I'ma make sure they get to experience the GOOD OLD DAYS of TMNT, X-Men, He-Man, Thundercats etc. The originals. Check out the first episode below, they have pretty much all of em up on youtube.

LOL at April O'neal walking into a brick wall.

Also, this artwork always stood out to me. I remember as a kid I had this issue specially framed not because of any value the comic had but just because I loved the way it looked to much. This shit is illy.

NBA Christmas Games (Lakers - Celtics)

Christmas Day, 1992: It doesn't get any better than this!

Not quite that level of excitement in 2009, but still a pretty good game is set up for us tomorrow. The Lakers and the Celtics will face each other for the first time since game 6 of the NBA Finals in which Kevin Garnett got the best of Kobe Bryant. Now the top team from the West will face the top team from the East, with Boston riding a 19 game winning streak off to the best start in NBA History at 27-2. Here is a little preview of the game to get you nice and hype!

Now, this is not the only game on tomorrow, there are FIVE games in a row starting at 12 noon going all through out the day and night. What a wonderful gift to us fans from the NBA. I can't wait. Grab some eggnog, play with your new toys.. Get nice and loaded, and watch the games!!! Here is some more highlights from Steve Smith's top 5 Christmas day memories. It's a great tradition in the league, my fav X-Mas game besides the Knicks-Bulls had to be the Kobe-Shaq reunion. That was classic drama.

Thundercats Movie????

How long must the world wait for a Thundercats movie!!!!!!!!! Its amazing how obsessed people seem to be with even the idea of a live action Hollywood interpretation of the classic 80s cartoon. I hear that finally a movie (unfortunately its going to be CGI, not live action) is in the works under Warner Brothers, thank god.. Because the level of fanaticism surrounding this has just reached an all time high.

A fan-made trailer like you have never seen before was posted on youtube, this shit is absolutely crazy. Using some sort of insane editing techniques he managed to take scenes from movies like Troy(Brad Pitt) and morph them into what appears to be a new Thundercats movie. Its extremely well done, I've always loved Thundercats and now more than ever cannot wait to see the real thing! I hope it is casted well, the only rumor I have heard so far is Tyrese Gibsen as Panthro. Already disappointing. I am hoping for better, in the mean time enjoy the fan made video:

Take that, Scottie!!!!

As Knicks fans, we have very little to enjoy in terms of memories vs. Chicaco in the 90s. I have a great amount of respect for Michael Jordan and what he did, especially vs. New York. But Scottie Pippen is another story. I always thought this guy was way too arrogant, just because he had #23 on his side. He showed his true colors when he decided to sit out the last play in 94 like a big spoiled baby. Here are a few fun clips involving Mr Pippen that Knick Fans should enjoy :)

Charles Oakley, we miss you.

Sincerely,

Ali G Throwback... On the Farm

Everyone loves Ali G............... Right? Just posting a throwback clip, my #1 fav skit from the classic HBO series. Ali managed to frustrate and confuse a lot of people, but none more than this poor farmer. The guy was so completely dumbfounded and confused by the end of the skit that you can see it in his face, almost like he was losing faith in humanity. I love this guys reactions. Why do people actually even entertain these ridiculous questions???? Classic.

Check out 5:00 - 5:15.. THAT SAYS IT ALL... bahahahahahahahahahaha

Yea we lost... BUT DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!

The Artistry of Michael Jordan

This video is for those of you who may be a little too young to have seen MJ in his prime and are only getting to seeing the same 50 highlights over and over and over again. A fabulous collection of rare highlights from MJ that truly showcases his grace, style and finesse. Even for someone who thinks they have seen it all on MJ this is a great video to just sit back and admire. Cheers to the best that ever did it.

Royce: Shake This (Prod. DJ Premier) VIDEO

Always been a huge Royce fan... This shit is real hot, the video is really well done plus Primo on the beat. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to the shit Royce is spittin about in this song. Especially those of us trying to chase a dream weather it be music or any other kind of career/goal.

Neo Da Matrix Pranks Your Manager

My boy Neo finds some random demo cd @ the Roc studios and decides to give this artist's manager a call... Hilarious. The best part is after Neo spits some ridiculous rap to him that's obviously a joke, the dude responds "That's cool man, I like it!". Neo is a funny ass dude, we had lots of good times back in our Ruff Ryders days... Check out his Myspace HERE. If you didn't know, he produced "Mic Check" for Juelz, "Say It' for Rhianna plus many more.

10 Reasons why I Appreciate Mike D'Antoni

#10 he makes good subs and his lineups are pretty logical. (god its been a while since I have been able to say that)

#9 he is ACTIVE on the sidelines, passionate and emotional.

#8 he is always optimistic, says all the things you want to hear in the post game conference...
After a tough loss I always fast forward immediately on my DVR to his post game interview and somehow, it always makes me feel better!!!

#7 He runs plays... When was the last time we actually ran plays ..??? Not to mention EFFECTIVE plays???

#6 he gives our guys CONFIDENCE and has raised the trade values of almost every player who has played this year.

#5 we are watchable

#4 I can root for this team, they play hard

#3 Big name free agents not only like him (from his experience coaching Team USA) but they genuinely want to play for him.... Lebron... Bosh... Wade... Nash... Amare.. Drool.

#2 He's not Isiah

#1 He looks like the Pringles guy.

Who are you and what have you done with Q Rich?????

I am so used to seeing Quentin Richardson lumber up and down the court like an old lady that these very athletic highlight plays of late are really catching me off guard. I would still like to see him post up smaller shooting guards more often (he's a monster on the post) and jack up less 3s.. But he's having a nice bounce back season so far! Check out these 2 recent highlight dunks, and keep in mind this is coming from someone who is known for having chronic back issues.

The last one vs. Dallas I was actually at that game and I remember the reaction of the crowd was total shock. People were barely cheering they could not believe it actually happened. KEEP IT UP Q!!!

I love this show

Another classic moment from the crew over at Inside The Nba

"You want his room key Kenny?????"

lmao. I love this show!

Remembering Otis Redding

41 years ago today, one of the most awe inspiring voices of the 20th century passed away in a tragic plane crash. At just 26 years old and truly in his prime, Otis had recorded his biggest hit single "Sitting on the dock of the bay" just 3 days prior to the crash.

Otis Redding & The Bar-Kays (Last Live Performance)

It sickens my stomach to think about all the amazing music we missed out on when Otis's life was cut so short, along with his amazing band "The Bar-Kays". This video was taken ONE DAY before the historic crash, in which there was only one survivor: Trumpet player Ben Cauley. Check out his amazing story in which he describes the events of the crash here.

Rolling Stone Magazine recently named Otis #8 on their top 100 singers of all time list. The song "Try A Little Tenderness(performed above) is probably my all time #1 favorite song, one of those that I've always wanted to sample but never have because I haven't felt able to do it justice yet. Maybe one day. Also, if you didn't know Otis wrote the smash hit "RESPECT" for Aretha Franklin.

Origins of the Moonwalk

Ah, the greatest and most influential musical performance in history. The first Moonwalk. Pure Magic. But where did Michael's inspirations for this now iconic move come from? Here's a look at some great old time dancers including Fred Astaire, who actually called Michael after the Motown 25 performance to tell him that it was the most amazing thing he has ever seen.

Enjoy!

T-Mobile G1 Google Phone

Allow me to open up a new category here at Elitethatsme.com

"Reviewing & Spewing"... A rhyme Inspired by Walt Clyde Frazier lol.

Ok so I've had this phone for a minute now, I copped it the day it came out.. Not cuz i was sold on the hype but really because I had lost my Sidekick the weekend before and it looked like the best option out there. Overall I really like it, but here is a little break down of the good & bad:

THE GOOD:
Touch Screen + Keyboard - Unlike the Iphone, the G1 has a slide out keyboard sort of like the Sidekick Slide. The keyboard itself is not quite as good as the Sidekick's because the buttons are not separated and you have a harder time FEELING out with your fingers the separation between each key. On the sidekick, this is very easy to do because each key is not only separated but raised up like a little bubble. At first it was very frustrating but at this point I've totally gotten used to it and going back to a sidekick feels awkward now. So don't be discouraged if at first your making a tun of typing errors, you will get used to it... I did anyways. The touch screen is very nice also, but I've never had or used an IPhone so I can't compare it really.. But it works fine for me.

YouTube - The YouTube feature is AWESOME! I know you can do this with other phones, but coming from a sidekick I really love the fact that I can sit and watch YouTube videos on the train, waiting in line etc. The quality is decent and the playback is pretty fast.

Web Browser: The browser is by far THE BEST browser I have ever seen on any phone, it's almost like a little laptop. While it does not support Flash (Yet) it DOES support Java, so almost any site you can use with ease. I think the browser is the phone's best asset, it really is excellent. Also you can open up multiple windows at once and toggle between them like a real computer. Sick.

Shazam: Simply the best phone feature in the world. I know its available for the IPhone too, but this shit is crazy (especially for producers). Basically lets say your in a restaurant and you hear a crazy song, instead of scrambling around asking people "do you know what song this is?" so that you can go home and download it... All you have to do is put your phone up to the speaker and vualla.. It not only tells you what song is playing, but with one click you can download the MP3 straight to your phone instantly via the Amazon.com application. A quick USB transfer to my PC and I'm chopping up samples in NO TIME.

Google Maps: Not only do you get the already great Google Maps, but you even get street view... Getting Directions on your phone is very easy, it works pretty much like GPS but without the audio "Turn left here" commands. The street view is very nifty though.

Shop Savvy: Basically, you can Scan a product's bar code and it will tell you how much it's going for online, and even in stores near by. Personally I love doin this when I'm shopping for gear, even if I don't want to buy something.. You see a jacket or shirt you really like but not gunna buy right now, just scan it and add it to your favs list so you can order it online when you feel like it! Amazing.

Android Market: Sure the IPhone has a market with applications also, but the G1 allows third-party applications meaning ANYONE can develop one, not just T-Mobile. There are a TUN of apps (a lot don't work right) but the ones that do are really good (shop savvy, shazam etc).

Random - The headset it comes with works really really well, call volume is excellent, the speed on the 3g network is great. Wifi works great, service is pretty good. The camera is great quality but only during the day, no flash. There are some really fun games, the Myspace app is good. The Gmail sync is excellent, you can sync everything about your Gmail account including the contacts/calender. Great for me cuz I do everything around my Gmail.

THE BAD:
Instant Messaging - Two thumbs down. The Aim barely even works at all, it never loads your buddy list and signs you off every 5 seconds. Piece of crap. I just set my ims to forward to my texts because the text messaging is very good. But good bye buddy lists!!! I hear they are working on some fixes for this, hopefully they will update the software and fix it.. Cuz its terrible!

Slow Response: Sometimes when your trying to do too much, like a PC, the G1 can lock up and start to freeze. Once in a while you'll try to end a call and it just won't respond. It doesn't totally FREEZE.. But it will stop responding for a good 30 seconds. Very annoying, but its like a little computer so you can't overload it by trying to do too many things at once.

No Headphone jack: Very gay, no jack for headphones. You can buy an adapter, and it comes with a custom USB Port headset, but if you want to use your own headphones and rock it like an Ipod you have to buy the adapter.

Can't download MP3's from websites or Gmail: This really sucks, the only way to get a MP3 on your phone is thru a USB transfer. I was hoping you could download a mp3 via Gmail (you can preview it.. But not save it.. Unless I just haven't figured it out yet). Also the only link you can save via web browser is a picture. I wish you could download MP3s from ZSHARE etc but for some reason you can't.

SD Card Bugs: For some reason, sometimes when I try to use USB Transfer or even the Camera, it asks me to insert my card or it doesn't recognize it. I think this bug is fixable, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Battery: The battery life is not good, it rarely lasts the full day. But that is because the phone has so much going on at once. Still it should be better, thankfully it charges pretty quickly so with a car charger it's not that big of a deal.

So those are basically all my complaints, as you can see the positives outweigh the negatives.. And i didn't even list all the small little positive things I like about the phone..... It's not perfect, but it aint bad at all... I recomend it if your looking for a Iphone/Sidekick combo. The main drawback is the lack of AIM if your a sidekick user. Besides that it's pretty dope!
